When first getting in touch, it is helpful to include a short description of the size of the collection, subject area, where it is located and whether photos or an earlier valuation exist.
Before you write
You do not need to know the philatelic terminology. A plain description is enough to begin the dialogue: number of albums, boxes or folders, which countries or periods the material seems to cover, and whether there are also covers, postcards or documents.
